You can’t talk about exercising without talking about your mindset.
Likewise, it’s hard to change your diet without dealing with your head.
Last year, I did a 5 week cleanse program with a high energy nutritionist and I lost about 8 lbs in the first 9 days. Most of it was water but what surprised me was that I had been retaining water because of… inflammation.
Needless to say, the cleanse excluded all but about 10 foods and the inflammatory agents got the boot during the program. As did the extra water that was built up mostly in my upper body—who knew.
When you launch out on a journey to change ingrained habits, it can be difficult. Our stuck self who wants safety and assurances isn’t always gung-ho for the ride. So, working on the mindset is vital, including the deep beliefs formed to protect and comfort ourselves.
In this case, one of the success practices we used during our cleanse was a kinetic exercise called Tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
Tapping is roughly based on acupuncture points, which, when stimulated by tapping, help calm the nervous system and according to some studies, lower heart rate, blood pressure and cortisol levels.
To tap, you set an intention and hold it while lightly tapping along a set of pressure points in the face and hands. It gets even more fun when you have a practitioner whose transformational dialogue is interesting and honestly opens up the heart of the matter.
For instance, are you feeling a lack of self esteem?
Find a tapping session on Youtube that addresses self esteem.
Some tappers are better than others at leading the mindset, don’t be afraid to click around on Youtube until you find someone you resonate with.
What I really love about Tapping besides the fact that it works is that it is instant.
I am a huge fan of instant gratification and you don’t need previous experience, although I think you get better results the more you practice.
I LOVE tapping and use it whenever I need to shift a behavior, like, I want to get my power walking habit kick started again. I love trail running and power walking in the woods but I get out of the habit all the time and then when I restart, it sometimes takes a sheer act of will power to get my tennies on.
Tapping is an awesome way of shifting your, “I’ll do it tomorrow” mind into a more productive gear.
Or, say you want to give a cleanse a go…start tapping and keep tapping, set your intention and if it works for you the way it works for me…you’ll convince yourself that honoring the cleanse, or getting up, putting on some yoga pants and going for a walk is the best thing that ever happened to you!.
Many thanks to my friend Colibri for turning me onto the 3.6.9 cleanse and to Darla Darling who is a fun and skilled Tapper!
